Welcome to Takashima Group

We study basic and clinical biology of peroxisomes, subcellular micro-organelle which metabolize very long chain fatty acids (VLCFAs), branched fatty acids such as phytanic and pristanic acid, bile acid, and plasmalogens. These metebolites are fundamental to human development and physiology therefore cause human diseases when affected.

Our aim is to understand pathogenesis of peroxisomal diseases, which are caused by mutated genes such as PEXs or ABCD1 gene. We use zebrafish, iPS cells from human patients, and patient's biopsy samples for our research. We also establishing the method to evaluate the content of above metabolites using liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LC-MS) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) as analytical and diagnosis tools.

Takashima group is a part of Prof. Nobuyuki Shimozawa Laboratory, Division of Genomics Research, Life Science Research Center, Gifu University.
